THE BRIEF
More light, a kitchen that works, and no surprises on the invoice.
The back of the house was a dark galley kitchen and a lean-to nobody used. The Pearsons wanted one room for cooking, eating and homework, opening onto the garden, without moving out for half a year.
We proposed a timber-frame rear extension on a steel ridge beam, so the old back wall could come out in a single weekend. Ridge & Lane Architects drew it up, Brookfield Structures signed off the steel, and our own crew framed, rewired and fitted the kitchen.
WEEK 06
The old back wall came out on Saturday and the ridge beam is carrying everything as planned. The temporary kitchen stays in the dining room for three more weeks.
